I told them i had diarrhea for 3 weeks and need to see any gastro doctor available, ASAP. Any location. They suggested i go to the emergency room because their soonest appointment was in 6 weeks for any doctor, any Location. I called Northwestern, got me in the next day.

Healthcare in America is failing us with incompetent doctors and the overall cost of healthcare. Rush used to be a great hospital however it’s gone to the dogs. I came in on Friday explained to the Dr. that I was having severe pain. He performed his exam and said basically there were no hemorrhoids and he wanted me to have a colonoscopy. I was in disbelief as I’m in pain from something. He prescribed some depositories and said I should feel better. Well they aren’t working and I’m right back to where I started from sever pain. I called to get back in ASAP lady gave me an appointment for December. It was a total waste of my time going here just to see a PA who has no idea of what he’s doing. I will not be visiting this place again.

Not good. Good luck trying to get an appointment. Can not make appointment because they are booked. Go somewhere else.

I was initially referred to Dr. Barrett at the end of 2024, And booked an appointment for April. At the end of March, my health got really bad and I called to see if I could see someone sooner. They scheduled an appointment with Dr. Kim, which I gladly accepted, With absolutely no information regarding any cancellation with my appointment with Dr. Barrett. I saw Dr. Kim, had a colonoscopy, only for her to tell me that “it was all in my head”. I’ve been chronically ill for over 10 years, including bleeding, constant pain and bowel issues, Trouble, eating, daily nausea and vomiting, and more. For a doctor to opt to gaslight a patient in that capacity was not only uncalled for and unprofessional, but simply untrue. I have no respect for Dr. Kim. I left this interaction glad that I would at least still be seeing Dr. Barrett, only find that when I scheduled the appointment with Dr. Kim, they canceled my appointment with Dr. Barrett without consent. I immediately called RUSH, as my health is terrible, Hoping to still see Dr. Barrett. I was crying on the phone because she doesn’t have availability until August. I’m devastated. The lack of communication from RUSH was unprofessional and ultimately consequently greatly impacted my ability to receive help with my health. The ‘nurses’ on the phone seem to have no empathy for patients.

6/14/25 Mary M. Biglin, MD, Gastroenterology, is a wonderful, thorough physician who goes above and beyond. She's generous with her time and answers all of my questions patiently and thoroughly. The entire gastroenterology department, which handled my procedure on June 10th, 2025, was proficient, on the ball and calm, and nurse Emory in particular. She was so warm and comforting, and her acts of compassion added a special touch to my visit. I wasn't nervous about my procedure at all, given the welcoming, reassuring atmosphere. This gastroenterology department is second to none, and they also got me in quickly when I needed to see someone on an emergency basis. I couldn't ask for a better team of professionals. Sure, it may take a couple of months to get in for an appointment sometimes, but it's like that at all hospitals. Gastroenterolgists are far and few in-between, and not really their fault....

Very rude unprofessional by appointment scheduling A lady by the name, Lolita was very unprofessional and unhelpful. I will never go back to the clinic that lady is making that clinic. Lose patients. that lady Lolita is very rude and I hope she gets reviewed by higher-ups so they can see how she manages scheduling on the phone

2025: It took a few years, but i found a doc that was helpful and has a good staff here. There was a lot of unfortunate bouncing around before this. RUN! SAVE YOURSELF! Patient relations doesn't even return calls. Good luck trying to file a complaint when the department just doesn't exist except to leave copy-paste forms in the reviews. Update: Still can't get a return phone call about medication approval paperwork even though the insurance company has called them twice. Nobody called to schedule an appointment, again. Calls will not be returned. The doctor told me to ask for his nurse by name and she won't call back. The whole department needs to be cleaned out. Update: Had trouble getting meds refilled, then was told off by the nurse, just before the follow-up his nurses refused to schedule. You'd think some sort of department or agency would be looking at the dysfunction here by now. Update: 4ish months out. It isn't worth working with his staff. They're rude and unwilling to do their jobs. The new doc gave me so much hope when he seemed to know what was going on. After refusing to schedule the follow-up my doc requested, delaying the meds, and refusing a proper referral for OT, the doc prescribed, I have none now. I've now been waiting months for a referral that the office can't seem to get written properly and signed. If I had good insurance, I'd be finding other care. What is the point of having a physician you can't get an appointment with or a contact or reply? I think I'm going to ask if it is worth wasting both of our time following up with such shoddy care. I don't feel it is. I'm not any better. Just ignored and annoyed. Also, I had already spent hours on the phone trying to talk to someone about the problems when they replied to my review. Did how much they pay attention. That reply is just insulting after everything I went through with them. That whole contact patient relations stuff is all bs, and they don't do anything but pass you in circles pretending they're listening. I've had great experiences with other departments at Rush, life changing, but GI is non-functional. I had multiple organs removed in 2020 due to repeated obstructions, and three years later, they're keeping me hanging, trying to maybe get an appointment every six months with most doctors leaving after the initial visit. The last doctor told me the work is done with immunology and was wrong, and GI distress isn't caused by food allergies. I gave up on him after he took one month to read an x-ray, discredited a whole branch of medicine, and the office failed three times to mail me the referral to OT, which they refused to give me on leaving, saying it would be sent. Now that I have an amazing doctor who has figured out what is going on, the behind the scenes care is non-existent. I never got a call to make a follow-up appointment and was denied one by the office. I had to call central scheduling and get one six months out. They wouldn't let me schedule on leaving, saying i would be called. I can't get insurance to approve my meds. Meds are typically approved within days if they have the information insurance needs, but there is no way to get it. Go somewhere else if you can. If it's something serious like organs rotting away inside you, you may well die first.

I had an amazing experience here, they were able to get me seen quickly and have all my concerns addressed. The same day surgery team was phenomenal, attentive, helpful and made my experience a positive one. Thank you to everyone!
